Towing Issues: lienholder, lien holder, finance company

my son was driving a car i co-signed for, within 7 days he tried to pick up the vehicle from towing yard but was told that the finance company picked up the vehicle. can they do that without notifying us

I really need more information to prove an answer for this question...

But basically the finance company  (who is the lien holder) has a right to keep the vehicle from accruing further fees which they might have to pay...

As to the part about telling you, well the generally will do that but it also takes time to do that at times.
