Towing Issues: towing package, front wheel drive, safety factor

Question
I have a 2004 Impala, trying to find out if there is a tow package and someone that can put it on my car. Was told to go to cheverlote and they told me that it can not be done. Can it be done? and can you tell me where to begin if it can? I am only looking to hall a small trailer with a four wheeler on it. OH, do I need tags on a small trailer.

well  Tina,  I am sorry to say but I checked and do not see anything that says there is a towing package available for this vehicle.  

I know there are trailer hitch assemblys made for it, but I think that part of the problem is that its a front wheel drive vehicle and as such when the hitch and trailer are hooked up, weight transfer happens where the rear of the vehicle goes down and the front goes up..

The potential for damages to the transmission, engine are increased, along with the safety factor of driveablity and steering control are decreased.  I would at least check with another dealer to see if the persons where wrong, but I think you might be out of luck with that vehicle to do what you want to..
