Toyota Repair: toyota 95, toyota 95, funky noise

Question
QUESTION: Yesterday on the highway, I was driving at about 65mph, but then suddenly there was a decrease on my speed. I tried to push harder on the gas pedal but nothing. The engine light is on as well as the battery light. It was as if the car lost power.
I was ready to poll over on the shoulder, but my break were very very hard to press on. It was not going down. When it stopped, I checked everything. It was low on engine oil, which I dont think it could have caused that.
However I restarted the car, it was working, but now I could hear like a fan spinning with a funky noise.
Do you have any ideas of what is going on? It was a scary experience especially with the breaks.
Would you know what could have cause the problem

ANSWER: What model toyota is it?
How many miles on the odometer?
When the engine is running do those lights still stay on?

QUESTION: sorry, I forgot to mention it is a corolla 95. 147,000 Miles. No the light did not stay on after I restarted the car.

Answer
The reason those lights came on is because the engine stalled, you also lost brake assist at the same time, these thing are normal if the engine stops running which of course is not normal. If the engine is running ok now it's hard to say what caused this to happen.
The only thing I can think of at this time is that maybe the alternator has a problem so i would recommend having the charging system checked using test equipment, most autoparts stores will do this at no charge.
