Toyota Repair: Strange starter issue w/98 Sienna?, professional locksmith, 49xxx

Question
We have a 98 Sienna, 130XXX miles on it but about 49XXX on the engine. It was replaced about 2 months ago. In the past 2 weeks, when the key is turned there's the normal click, then nothing. But if this is done a couple of times, it will finally start. Autozone said the battery is fine, but maybe not? Someone suggested perhaps the keys are too old. Sometimes we work a little voo-doo, because holding the door open at a 45 degree angle can do the trick it seems. This only happens when the van has been sitting for a while - first thing in the morning and also at the end of the work day. If it's running on and off throughout the day, it cranks on the first or second try instead of the 4th or 5th. Ideas??

Answer
It could be a worn key thats just not lining up properly.  This is the simplest fix and the first thing you should try.  Go to a professional locksmith (i.e. NOT the idiots at Lowes) to get a new key.  You can also get a new key from Toyota (they make it based on your VIN)
Could also be a worn ignition switch or a loose wire in the ignition switch.
I would refrain from the voodoo and try speaking soothing, comforting, edifying words.  If that doesn't work, resort to threats like "Do you want a one way ticket to the junkyard?".  Works every time!  TeeHee
