Toyota Repair: Toyota 4Runner, toyota 4runner, scantool

I have a 2001 Toyota 4Runner and recently the TRAC OFF VSC TRAC lights came on and today the car shut off. It will start however when put into gear it shuts off immediately. What is the problem?

There are many things it could be that's why it has an onboard diagnostic system to determine where the problem lies, the computer has stored some trouble codes which need to be retreived, this is done by connecting a diagnostic scantool to the car's computer to get those codes, try to locate an autozone or other large autoparts store they will get the codes at no charge, when you have the trouble code numbers and let me know what they are I can then help.
