Toyota Repair: 98 Sienna Transaxle failure, differential gears, remanufactured units

Question
Bought a 98 sienn a with 86K on it. Had a mild noise back then and has increased til at 180K I'm told the transaxle is failing due to a design defect that starves the transaxle of fluid due to the suction to the trans cooler being near the differential assy. In any event the transmission shifts fine except when cold. Is it worth rebuilding the transaxle and if so should I rebuild the transmission also while disassembled?

Answer
Rebuilding this transmission will probably cost more than a new one, transmission parts are extremely expensive and in most cases the transmission case will have to be replaced due to this failure along with differential gears and bearings. Toyota dealers do not overhaul or rebuild transmissions anymore, we replace them with remanufactured units.
