Toyota Repair: Immobilizer System, toyota fortuner, ted ritter

Question
QUESTION: Dear Ted Ritter,

I am working on 2007 TOYOTA FORTUNER (Model: TGN51-EKPSKV, Engine:2TR-FE). It’s equipped with engine immobilizer system.
Unfortunately, the customer lost all keys; therefore, he bought a new Ignition key set (having the Master  & Sub keys) and the transponder ECU.
To register the master and the sub keys to the immobilizer ECU, I used the scan tool, and tried to start the engine but it didn’t.
By using scan tool I read Diagnostic Trouble Code (B 2799 Engine Immobilizer system). Therefore, I suspected that, there is no communication between the transponder ECU and the Engine ECU (ECM). Then I traced the related electrical wirings and I have tried several times to clear the DTC (B 2799) using scan tool and by disconnecting the negative clamp of the battery, but the code remains unclear.
From the DLC3 connector I have shorted TC-CG terminals for 30 minutes and longer to register the ECU communication ID. But in all these, I am unable to start the engine.
What is your proposal? I am waiting for you assistance.

Regards,

Ephrem Mulat

ANSWER: Unless you are a toyota certified master technician working at a toyota dealer you will not be able to register the immobilizer keys when all the keays are lost, the immobilizer reset procedure has to be done, this is done by going online to the toyota technical information system where the technician will get a passcode after entering some information, this passcode will enable to immobilizer to be reset, it requires using the toyota techstream scantool, you should contact the toyota dealer for assistance.

QUESTION: I am using the Denso brand (IT II).

Answer
I'm not familiar with that tester but I will try to help as much as I can. After logging on to TIS, click on the diagnostic tab>click on immobilizer reset> it will ask for your password again> on the next screen there will be some empty fields that need to be filled in, fill in the required information but don't the press submit yet. On the scantool locate immobilizer and go to the reset function> it will give you a seed number> enter this number in the computer screen and press submit> it will give you a passcode> enter the passcode into the scantool to start the process, this is time sensitive sp if too much time elapses it won't work and you will have to try again.
