Question
i have a celica 00 i being hearing some squeaking from the car at first i thought it was in the back of the car buth then later discovered it was coming from the enigne compartment i think it could be the fan belt but i being told it could be my air con could this be the case.

Answer
Hi,

The answer to your question can be difficult due to the fact that squeaks can be caused by many different things. If it's coming from your engine compartment, you might want to try a few simple tests. First, start your engine and take a spray bottle full of water and spray the belts as the engine runs. If the squeak fades, you have chapped belts. If this is the case, you will need to apply belt dressing or possible replace the belts depending on age and condition. If the noise is coming from a pulley, while your engine is OFF, make an attempt to check for any looseness in the pulley to check for worn bearings. If loose, replace pulley. If your car sqeaks only when the air conditioner compressor is activated, then it sounds like the belts could simply be too loose and need to be tightened.

Hope this helps.
