Toyota Repair: 2001 4Runner New Antenna Mast, antenna mast, improper position

Hi, I replaced the broken antenna mast with a new one following the directions. All works well except that when the antenna goes up all the way the antenna motor does not stop turning and the gears are now making noise for several seconds. Then the motor stops. I turn off the radio and the mast goes down, the motor stops immediately when the mast is all the way down. This is great! How come it -motor- does not stop immediately when the mast is fully extended? Please let me know if there is a way to adjust the timing on the antenna motor.

When you replaced I assume it had the plastic gear strip attached.
The gear strip travels from one end to the other as the antenna goes
up and down. Its either broken or in the improper position. A Haynes or Chilton repair manual will show you how it operates.
