Toyota Repair: Toyota problem, toyota corolla, transmission shops

Question
QUESTION: Hi and thank you for your help. My brother Don told me about you and her thinks you guys are great.

I have a 1994 Toyota Corolla and my transmutation is starting to act up and it is strange. In the morning when I start out it will not shift into OD for about a mile. That is how the problem started and now it is getting worse. Adding to that even after it wormed up the OD light will flash on and off and it will jump in and out of OD. Then the speedometer will stop working and soon after the trance feels like you put it in neutral. You will race the engine and feel nothing, then it will go back in gear and you do not feel as if it was out of gear. There is no bang in the trance it just goes in as it was never out. Other than that the trans shifts fine, no problems at all. I checked the fluid and it is fine. What do you think? Thank You Paul

ANSWER: The O/D light is flashing because there is a trouble code in the transmission computer. Please have the code retreived either at the toyota dealer or some other place, the dealer will charge you a diagnostic fee as will most repair shops, AAMCO transmission shops will do it for free as well as some autoparts chain stores such as Kragen or Autozone, let me know what trouble codes are retreived and I can be of more help.

ANSWER: I never told you to replace anything, I just asked for a trouble code which I still need in order to help you. I do not sell parts here, I only give advice, I have no idea who you bought the sensor from or why.

QUESTION: Sorry I got my emails mixed up. This is the one that was ment for you.Thank you Mr. Ritter for your help, I did everything you told me to do. I
got the code it was a 42 witch is a speed sensor. I cleared all old codes
then I went out and got a new one and put it in, I made sure the plug was in
good. I cleared all old codes and gave it a test drive. It was the same as
before, will not shift gears at time, speedometer works on and off, OD OFF
light flashes on and off. I rechecked the code and it was just one code, 42.
Could it be I got a defected new speed sensor, or is there something I
missed?
Thank You for all your help Paul

Answer
Thank you for the clarification, there may be a problem with the speedometer in the dash, there is another speed sensor in the speedo which may be causing the problem, this one sends the vehicle speed directly to the computer and if it's malfunctioning it will affect shifting, try replacing the speedometer in the dash I think it will solve the problem unless there is some sort of wiring problem.
