1996 Corolla 4-dr automatic, bought a week ago, and it had been parked for 2 months. 170 K mileage, ran fine, and it has been cold here in Dallas. On the first warm day (81 F), Engine Light came on and car ran at around 40-50 % on temp gauge, had never risen above 20 %. Are issues related, and what are possible causes for engine light? Checked all fluids, etc and nothing apparently wrong. Radiator fluid looks fine, engine heated very quickly (5-7 minutes) but never got hotter.

Thank you,

Can't help unless I kn ow the trouble code for the check engine light, try to find an autozone store they will get the code for you at no charge and then let me know what it is.

Answer
Thanks for the reply, it seems that there is an EGR malfunction, the EGR system needs to have a function test done to see what exactly is causing the problem, this is done with a vacuum pump/gauge, and someone that knows how to test the system, it is common on these model corollas that the egr passage is clogged in the intake manifold or the egr valve pressure port is blocked with carbon deposits so the egr gas can't flow through or the egr valve itself may be bad.
