Toyota Repair: 90 toyota 4 runner, negative battery cable, positive cable

Question
The negative battery cable is coaroted....and needs to be replaced..how do I get the cables undone to be able to replace them...everyone says the starter but I still can't find it..HELP!!!!

The positive cable goes directly to the terminal on the starter besides it branches off at the terminal to supply twelve volts to the rest of the car's electrical system, in most cases the terminals can be replaced and replacing the whole cable is not necessary, the negative side connects via cable to the engine block and branches off to the body ground.
The starter is located under the exhaust manifold on the right side of the engine.
