Tractor Repair: MH Colt - drives in neutral!!!!!, shift forks, shift fork

Question
I accidentally let my MH Colt ran out of transmission fluid, and something bad has happened.  If I start it with clutch in and in gear, and then let the clutch out, the tractor stalls.  If I start it in neutral with the clutch in, and then slowly let the clutch out, the tractor actually drives forward.  What has happened???

Answer
Hello,

Either the bottom of the shift lever jumped out of one of the shift forks, or a gear has siezed onto a shaft, or there is a broken shift fork.  If the bottom of the shift lever jumps out, the lever may be in the neutral position, but one of the gears is still engaged.  Then when you shift it into gear, it's locked in two gears at once.  If it is possible to remove the lever without removing the transmission cover, then it will be easy to fix. If the lever is OK, then one of the gears is siezed onto a shaft from lack of lubrication.
