Tractor Repair: B414 front wheels problem, wheel bearings, ridiculous level

Question
Hello Arnie,

My B414 works fine, I use it for making fire wood in the East of France. My problem is that when I start to speed up, the front wheels (both) start to warp and then I have to reduce the speed to a ridiculous level to avoid this warping... For your knowledge, I must say that I can turn 1/8 of the steering wheel before the front wheels start to move... Also if steering wheel is in a certain position I can go fast (maximum speed) until I meet a bump or a pothole and then wheels warp again and I have to drastically reduce speed. I guess that these symptoms must clearly identify the problem (Hope so : ).
Is that to do with steering box ? or wheel axle ? or another thing ?

Thank you very much for your help.

Best regards

Yves

Answer
Hello,

Everything in the front axle and steering mechanism must be checked.  The steering gear box is definitely worn, but also there can be wear on the wheel bearings, tie-rod ends, spindles, etc.  Inspect everything to see what is worn out, and replace as necessary, and adjust front wheel toe-in to make sure the wheels are aligned properly.
