Auto shop test indicates coil is good? 12 volt system also a new resistor was installed near the coil. just will not fire up. ugg  any help or direction helpful  thanks. Mark

Answer
Mark hi Danny here lets look at a process of elimination ok.
(1) No spark at plugs ?
(2) Do you have power at the supply side of the coil if yes then move on if no find out why follow leed back to ignition switch.
(3) If yes do you have power at the distributor side of the coil if yes move on to the distributor if no the coil could be faulty you say it checks out ok.
(4) Do you have power at the points if yes does the distributor go around when the engine is cranked for starting if no look at the timing chain or distributr drive if it goes around does the points open and close make sure the gap is correct some where around .018" should help are the points clean rub a piecec of emery cloth between them folded in half so it cleans both sides.
(5) Make sure the rubbing block in distributor cap is making good contact with the rotor button clean the contacts in the cap.
(6) The last thing is check the coil leed is in good order it could be faulty.

Mark short of that you may need to call in the big guns the local mechanic I could be your local mechanic if you are in Australia but the traveling cost could be very high if you are not please let me know how you go with it matey.
