Triumph Repair: Gross Jet, jet needle, vent system

Question
hey Howard,
I am gathering information on my carb (Zenith Stromberg 150 CD because I
am having some problems on my 1975 Triumph Spitfire.
Compression is fine, timing is set but the car floods, so a member of my
triumph club has recommended changing the needle valve for a grose jet
needle and valve, what are your thoughts on this?

Answer
Hi Harold,
I have used Gross jet needle and seats before and they work fine. However it will only correct a flooding problem if the existing float needle and seat are bad. If the problem is caused by something else the new needle and seat is not going to correct no matter what brand needle and seat. Check fuel pressure to see that it is not too high and check the float chamber vent system to see that it is clear and check the float level to see that it is not too high and the float is not damaged. If all that is good and you want to use a Gross Jet needle and seat (if it is available for the Stromberg) that is fine.
