Triumph Repair: 1972 triumph spitfire hazard switch, hazard switch, triumph spitfire

Question
QUESTION: Hi Howard, I have a 1972 triumph spitfire and it seems that the battery looses voltage when the car is not started for a couple of days, and i have to recharge it. Also it seems that the right signal light is very slow to flash and the left light will not flash. I was told that the hazard switch may be faulty or not wired right. Any Suggestions,  Wayne...

ANSWER: Hi Wayne,

First look at all the lights front and rear to see that they both flash when you turn to either side then check the parking lights to see that they all work ok.

If every light is ok and you have a different speed of flash on each side you need to look at the Wattage of each bulb because the flasher unit works on the resistance of the bulbs and if you have a bulb or several bulbs of different Wattage the flasher unit will change it's speed on each side. If there is a problem at one of the parking lights especially a ground problem the flasher unit will note the difference in resistance at the parking light/ turn signal light and have a different speed.

Unlikely anything to do with the hazard switch as it don't know which turn signal you have turned to.

QUESTION: Hi Howard, re my 1972 Triumph spitfire hazard switch rocker style, What is the function of all the 6 terminals on this switch.Does this switch control or affect any other lights ie signal lights, etc....  Wayne...

Answer
Wayne, I learned a long time ago when working on electrical problems to ONLY work on ONE circuit at a time until you fix that circuit. Many times when you fix one faulty circuit it will fix other problems.

If you have a reason that you don't want to fix the turn signals when you know they are faulty and would rather bypass that problem then your best bet is to go to my web site and copy the wiring diagram and chase the circuits as you would like.
