UK Car Repair: Vauxhall Astra 1994, vauxhall astra, slow reply

Question
Dear Christian,
I recently bought a Vauxhall Astra 2.0 Bertone Convertible. It was driving fine until one day I needed to jump the battery. It started straight away so I drove a short distance and upon returning to the car it wouldnt start again so I jumped it again and still no joy. I've been told its the ignition coil and battery which I replaced. Still wont work now a garage is trying to say they dont know whats wrong but I should let them fix the fuel relay, crankshaft and ECU!!!! The engine turns over fine everything works just no spark. Any advice would be gratefully received.

All the best
Paula

Answer
sorry for slow reply,
find a better garage, I cant diagnose this electronically timed and fuelled engine via email but a mechanic with a multimeter and at least some knowledge should figure it out in under a minute. stay away from this garage, randomly changing parts at your expense in the vain hope that the next part will fix it.. just a few hundred more quid.. on yer bike.
