QuestionHello., my gearbox has just failed. Mileage 78K, can you advise how much a replacement either new or reconditioned should cost and is it worth it on an old car? Could it be something else of you cant get gears into position?
AnswerGearbox should be about £60-£150 depending where you go, and about £100 to fit at the right garage.
Explain exactly what happens with the box, can you select gear with engine off and then start car and drive in that gear? does the clutch work if you do this or is the clutch jammed on?
could be a clutch problem or the selectors in the box, maybe even totally ruined shaft bearings in the box.
