UK Car Repair: hi paul, opel astra, throttle linkage

Question
QUESTION: i have a opel astra 1.7dti. now  when i washed the engine because a little oil was on the engine a problem appeared: when i start the engine it accelerate itself to 15000 rpm and there is no acceleration if i step on it nothing happens, if i step the break the engine comes down to normal 900 rpm but still no acceleration. i now it might have water somewhere but i don't now where i already used a fan to dry out the showing electronics. thanks

ANSWER: Hello Cezar, What year Astra? the newer ones have an electronic throttle and you may have damaged it, on the other hand if it is an earlier model you may have dislodged the throttle linkage. You would have to have a mechanic check i to know what to look for. Check the accelerator cable (if applicable) - Good luck - Paul

QUESTION: is a 2000 model and the last 3 days was crazy sometimes is working perfectly and then suddenly it stops, and accelerate itself again if is a an electronic throttle where is the damage located . please help.

Answer
Hello Cezar, if the throttle is electronic, the damage would be in  the actuator (black box bolted to the side of the throttle housing) if there is a cable going to the side of the throttle housing then it is NOT an electronic throttle. - good luck-Paul
