Volkswagen Repair: Cabriolet keeps stopping, fuel starvation, starvation problem

Question
we have a 1989 Cabriolet that will go along for awhile and then just quit, sometimes it will start right up without having time to come to a halt and other times it will take minutes before it will start again. This all seemed to start after a new fuel tank was installed and sometimes it won't stop at all. Any ideas? Thank you

Answer
Brad,
If related to the fuel tank change out, it may be a fuel starvation problem.  Change the fuel filter.  Have the fuel pressure tested.
Another theory: Some large piece of debris is sloshing around the tank, gets close to the pickup tube, gets suctioned against it, stops fuel flow, engine quits, suction stops, debris is released, and off you go again.
