Volkswagen Repair: 2003 Jetta GLI VR6 six speed transmittion, clutch pedal, shifting gears

Question
Hi, John I am having a problem shifting gears.  While the car is running I can not shift into any gear.  But while car is off I can just fine.  This problem started just recently, and it is intermittent.  The car only has 26,000 miles on it any help is appreciated.

Answer
Sounds like the clutch is slipping. When the clutch pedal is pressed down is the trans grinding when gears is trying to be shifted? Your car should be under warranty for the trans if you are the first owner and the problem is other than the clutch. The pressure plate and the clutch are pretty much the only component that is not covered under warranty. Also the clutch is also the main factor of not being able to shift into gears. The slave cylinder and shift fork also can be a factor but unlikely. Basically if it is the clutch the intermittently problem will get much worse. Good luck.
