Volkswagen Repair: air filter replacement, mass air meter, phillips screws

Question
2004 1.8 turbo passat;
I bought an air filter to replace the factory one, but I can't locate it.
Thanks

Answer
The filter is on the passenger side of the engine compartment. Take off the trim on the filter housing. Remove the three Phillips screws on the front radiator support for the air ducting. Loosen and unclip the four  hold down clips around the filter housing. Disconnect the purge valve connecter. Lift up the top portion of the filter housing. Four inches is good. Remove the air filter and replace. Then make sure that air filter and housing is lined when locking all four tabs. Any dirt that passes the filter will scratch the cylinders and damage the mass air meter.
