Volvo Repair: volvo sputters hesitates no power at low speeds, volvo 242, fuel distributor

we have a 1979 volvo 242 dl it has been sputtering intermittently but is doing it more frequently now, I can have the accelerator completely to the floor and it will cough and sputter and won't go fast, if I keep the accelerator depressed it will eventually pick up and rev higher.  to me it seems it's not getting enough fuel.  It is really cold here right now.

Angela, that is possible.  Its most likely running on only 1 pump.  There are 2.  Listen under the car to hear if the main pump is running.  This may also be a fuel distributor issue or control pressure regulator.  This is one of those cases that I would have to inspect the car.  Roger
