Volvo Repair: 97 volvo t 5 wagon climate control and seconday air system, broward county florida, heater control valve

Question
Hi there
I have spent the last 3 hours looking at this sight and it seems you know a great deal about the 850 series. I recently  bought this car and have since been faced with numerous issues that have been solved. Now the next generation of issues is upon me and Im getting frustrated. I have dual zone climate control. Now when the heat is on and Im driving down the highway the warm air flows nicely but when I slow down at a stop light, the car begins blowing cool air. When I resume travel, the air returns to warm. It continues this cool down when I again hit a stop light. HELP!!
Next, I have a continuous electric motor running at the front of the car. Im told its the motor that drives the secondary air pump system. I have heard that the relay goes bad from moisture and causes the motor to run constantly. Is this true? and if so, what is the estimated repair.
By chance, are you located in Broward County Florida with a volvo repair shop? I spend winter down there and would love to know a reputable place to count on for volvo issues
Sincerely
Dan Smittle
Alexandria, Virginia

Answer
Dan, No, Im in Lee county about 3 hours from Broward.  I do know of a Volvo shop there.  Its the Volvo shop or V shop. The airpump issue is correct. The relay is about 40 bucks.  The air pump itself is pricey but if its working then I wouldnt worry about it right now.  As far as the air flow, you may be having a sticky heater control valve issue.  I dont deal with heat much so it also may be a control head issue as well.  You are welcome to come to the shop when you are down and we can check it for you.  If you are interested, please contact me again.  Roger
