Volvo Repair: volvo 1989 240dl wagon air intake, fuel pressure regulator, volvo 1989

Question
so, we are trying to find the air intake. where is it? and what does it look like? the car won't start. the starter engages, but the engine wont turn over. we checked the spark plugs, and they spark. we were told to put carb cleaner into the air intake in hopes to see if the fuel injection/ pump was clogged. is this a good idea, because it doesnt seem legitimate. thanks!

Answer
What moron is telling you that?  Sounds like there is a relay situation going on or bad pump.  The only place you put carb clean in the nipple that goes from the fuel pressure regulator to the intake manifold.  That will at least tells you the car runs on carb clean.  There is obviously an issue somewhere.  Roger
