Volvo Repair: 940 Volvo Shuts down - No one seems to know why, independent volvo, turbo volvo

Question
QUESTION: Help!  I have a 940 Volvo that just shuts down and stops running...wherever I happen to be.  All the gauges go down and the car just stops running.  I have had the alternator, battery, spark plugs and transmission replaced.  This is getting too costly now for a car like this.  I am now being told it COULD be the wiring cluster.  Does this sound right?  It is going to cost me $100 more for just them to test it and would like to know what else I am in for financially.
ANSWER: You are getting ripped off.  Are you taking this car to a real Volvo shop or Joes garage? What year is your 940?  Turbo or non turbo?  Roger

QUESTION: I have a 1993 Non-turbo Volvo.  I took it to the Volvo dealer and they are the ones that said it was the alternator.  I had the alternator replaced and the very next day it died on me.   Firestone was right down the street from where the car died this last time so I had them run a diagnostic on it - which they are the ones saying it's the wiring.  I want to add that I had to have the 02 sensors replaced just last month for it to pass inspection.  I have spent alot money and now I don't know if I should keep the car.  If I can at least get an idea of what is really wrong with the car it would help me decide if I should keep the car or not.  Do you know what else could be wrong with it?  It would help.  I have to go pick up the car and take it somewhere because Firestone won't do the wiring.
ANSWER: Dville, I have not seen a wiring harness go bad on a 93 940 to date.  Where do you live?  I may be able to find you a reputable independent Volvo Shop.  It can be a lot of things.  On these cars, a scan isnt going to tell you much of anything.  This is all knowledge and tests.  It may be fuel related, it may be ignition related, without doing my tests on the car I would only be guessing.  Im sorry I cant help you with diagnosing the car but perhaps I can help you find a good shop that can fix the car.   Roger

QUESTION: Thanks Roger, I am in Frisco, Texas which is north of Dallas, Texas.

Answer
Dville, try calling Southwest auto sales in Dallas and see if they have a Volvo Tech or a Service department.  They are listed in my catalog.  The only other place I have listed is Volvo of Dallas.  Southwest's number is 972-488-2525.  Let me know how it works out.  Roger
