Volvo Repair: 1985 740 gle A/C, excessive gas, belief

my A/C compressor is always running even with the controls set correctly, the A/C works great, but i dont want the compressor always running and using gas.

Colin, Due to contrary belief, the compressor doesnt make the car use excessive gas, but in anycase, how correct are you controls?  If you put the slide in the middle then it should be off.  Compressor will be on even in defrost mode.  If all is still good, then there is an issue with the switch or someone botched the wiring somewhere along the years.  Let me know.  Roger
