my 960 has energy spikes in my gauge and i have to leave my key in the on position for sometimes three minutes before my gauge will stop spiking and settle down to the temperature its suppose to be. my cooling fan will come on when my engine is cold and my car will not start until the gauge is done bouncing around... also my check engine light sounds like a machine gun and blinks really fast when i hold the key in the on position.... my car still gets 25 miles a gallon and runs well but this is a mystery to me... any help would be appreciated...where should i start... i have replaced the temperature sensor and have it checked by a few places

Answer -
Jon, What year 960?  Roger

Answer
Jon, The only thing I can think of is there is a problem in the circuit board of the instrument cluster.  I have seen where a fuse link has popped and has caused crazy stuff like you are describing.  I would start there and inspect the board for any burned links, etc.  Roger
