Questionmy mum just bruoght a 1986 volvo 740 gl estate it worked fine and started 1st time when brought it home and now it wont start. The starter moter turns but it wont start the engine. it aprantly had an imobiliser but that was removed by the garage who put it in.

There are many systems that make an engine go.
Very hard to tell you a specfic answer.
Consider the following:
check and clean fuse connections...
check electrical under hood...wiggle connectors
90 % of problems involve electrical.
maybe a bit out of your abilities...I'd guess.
check your fuel pump relay...
find your fuse box...see if anything looks corroded.
make sure that your secondary wire from your batt. isn't corroded...
OF COURSE,the fuel tank has lots of fuel.?
find a little repairman who specializing in Volvo...most often you get a better deal...I really believe this....volvo people have more positive energy surrounding themselves...hence,a much better deal.
