Volvo Repair: 2002 Volvo S40 Oil and filter change, oil filter cartridge, volvo s40

I found the drain plug and oil filter on my daughter's 2002 Volvo S40. I've change oil and filter on every car I've owned for 30 years and should have no trouble on this one but the web is full of horror stories about significant damage that's occurred after an owner has done maintenance on a Volvo so I want to have the "proper tools" and be aware of any and all of the pitfalls. Thanks in advance for your help.

THERE IS NOTHING SPECIAL OTHER THAN A SPECIAL TOOL THAT MAKES THE OIL FILTER CARTRIDGE HOUSING EASIER TO REMOVE.YOU WILL NEED TO CHECK PARTS STORES FOR THE PROPER SIZE TOOL.IF YOU SHOW THEM THE FILTER HOUSING THEY SHOULD BE ABLE TO MATCH IT TO SOMETHING THEY HAVE.I HAVE NO IDEA WHY SOMEONE WOULD HAVE SO MUCH TROUBLE JUST CHANGING THE OIL.SOUNDS LIKE AN URBAN LEGEND TO ME.
