Volvo Repair: Trunk struts, strut, rear seat

Question
I am installing replacement trunk struts on my 1997 volvo 850T with spoiler.  The outside end of the strut is easily removed.  How do I remove the inside (trunk) end of the strut and also how do I install the inside end?  Someone told me to contract the strut first.

remove the trunk side first then push the strut down till it hits the metal of the body then snap it downward quickly this usually makes it pop off.to install them I usually remove the piece of the rear seat that lies behind the seat belt.this small piece of the seat removes by pulling the top out then lifting it upward.then you can reach in and snap the strut onto the body through this hole then attach it to the trunk.sounds easier than it is.
