BMW: 325es 1986, using jumper cables, abs light

Question
I just bought a 86 model 325es, i took it in for a break and lamp inspection and i have no reverse lights and the ABS light stay's on fuses are good all the other lights work, no code came back for the ABS light problem. Please help. It is a manual trans.

Answer
Al,
There is some wiring that runs from the side of the tranny up into where the shifter goes down through the floor.  This wiring gets broken or disconnected sometimes.  There is a switch on the side of the transmission that makes the reverse lights come on, and this switch could be bad as well.
The ABS problem is another thing.  A lot of times when people try to jump these cars off (using jumper cables) they hook the battery up backwards.  When this happens it "can" fry the ABS computer.  This would cause your ABS light to come on.
There's also the sensors on each wheel that if dirty, will cause the ABS light to shine as well.  Check all the sensors on the wheels, they need to be tight up against the hub.

 Good luck,
 Josh
