BMW: E30 Convertible - Rear Window Adjustment, window locks, vinyl tops

Question
Hi... thanks in advance for your help. I have a 92 318I convertible, last of the e30s...

I bought the car 3 years ago, and have had to do several major repairs, but overall the engine runs great, and the car feels terrific!

I really have two questions, first, over the past year I've noticed that when I close the driver door with the windows up, the back edge of the driver window "locks" against the front edge of the rear window. It looks like either the front window goes up at an angle (but it seems to fit correctly in the fixed track/frame behind the triangle), or the rear window needs to be adjusted.

I know how to take the rear inside panel off, and looked around yesterday, but could not see anything obvious to adjust. Any ideas?

The second question is regarding changing the covertible top. Do you have, or do you know of anyone with experience changing the top by themselves? Is it prohibitively difficult? Should I just take it to a shop and spend the (I don't want to imagine how many) $$.  Ever since I've owned the car I've felt like the current top was installed incorrectly... the back edge should turn down towards the body, but in my case, it actually flips up, and acts like a gutter in the rain...  I'd love to either fix that or if necessary, replace it.

Anyway, thanks in advnce for your input.

Answer
Ken,
I am sorry but I have to be perfectly honest. I have never adjusted the rear windows on an E30. Maybe you could ask the E30 expert Josh Fields. As far as top replacement goes I have done that at the dealer and I don't know why people have us do it. If there is a good shop in your town that does simulation convertables or vinyl tops have them give you an estimate or point you to someone who can. At the dealer you are probably looking at $3500-$4000 range vs. aftermarket shop for $1500-$200 range. It is expensive but so worth the money, especially being a rear window that sews in intead of zips in.  And if they are that far into the car they probably konw how to or can figure out how to adjust the windows. Sorry I can't be more help.
