BMW: restricted, control arm bushings, air flow meter

Question
hi josh,

i have a '90 3251c automatic 87K mi and acceleration feels restricted.  It used to be whenever you pressed the acceleration the car wouldn't go right away and then when it would go, the acceleration would pulsate, similar to ABS, but as soon as it would get to cruising speed it would usually be fine.  now, it  runs better, but still feels hesitant, especially out of the gate (doesn't feel like a 6 cyl acceleration) and when the AC is on and i get to about 60mph it starts cutting back as if not getting enough gas or air and i have to turn the AC off.  (i live in phoenix, it's sort of a problem).  oh, another thing is the back wheels are slanted outward way more than they're supposed to be, especially the driver's side(i have to buy new tires twice a year); is replacing the subframe the only way to fix that?

history:  i've had the car for 3 yrs/25k mi.  in that time, the air flow meter lid has been pried open and messed with.  oxygen sensor tested good.  KNN filter, just serviced.  fuel pump replaced, fuel filter replaced.  transmission leak, replaced gasket.  coolant leak, sealed radiator.  alternator replaced.  spark plugs and wires replaced.  replaced exhaust.  replaced rear shocks and bushings.  regular oil services.

any help would be appreciated.  thanks.

Answer
Vic,
The A/C problem could be many things.  It's probably cause because of the extra load placed on the engine, and it not compensating for it.  Usually if you press the A/C button on the dash, it will increase the idle of the engine a few hundred RPM.

I would check for vacuum leaks and see if that's the problem.

As far as the rear suspension, they should have some camber, but not where you are eating tires.  I have a convertible, and I wear out the fronts WAY faster than I wear the rears.  The springs could be sagging, or something could be bent (unlikely though).  Your subfram bushings could be shot, or your control arm bushings could be bad as well.  They are a pain to change though, so make sure they are the problem before removing the control arms.

 Hope this helps,
 Josh
