BMW: 1988 735il power steering, auto transmission fluid, power steering fluid

Question
I changed the rear struts on my car from struts with hydraulics to regular struts.  I know that the rear struts affect my power steering.  I recently changed the struts back to ones with hydraulics and the power steering got better but it is still hard to turn at times.  I was told to take the power steering fluid out then put hydraulic fluid into the power steering conatiner under the hood and when that is used up then put power steering fluid.  Is this true?  Will the hydraulic fluid correct my problem?

Answer
Sweetroller,
I am no expert with the 7-series, but I can tell you that I WOULD NOT put hydraulic fluid in the resevoir.  Most of these systems acually run with ATF (auto transmission fluid).
I do not understand how shocks can make the steering harder though, sounds fishy.  Shocks should little if any affect on the steering feel.
 Is the system currently leaking?

 Hope this helps,
 Josh
