Buick/Olds: Starting problems, buick park avenue, factory security

Question
QUESTION: PLEASE HELP...I have a 1996 Buick Park Avenue with 136,000 miles. It has the 3.6 V6. This has just started...When we turn the key forward it just goes dark and wont start. Everything works (radio, air, everything) like its going to start but when you go forward it just dosent do anything...no clicking or anything, it acts like the ignition isnt going far enough forward. Ive checked the battery and the connections and all look good. It will start every now and then...and starts like a champ! I do have the SECURTY light coming on going down the road and wondered if that may have some effect on why it wont start sometimes? Please help...im about to drive it off a cliff!!!!

ANSWER: It definately is the security.
If you have another ign key, try using that. Often the chip on the key gets worn and loses something. Also, use your remote to turn the security off. Press Lock, (twice) then press unlock 2-4 times, with the key out of the ign. then try to start.

QUESTION: Thank you for the response but I have one more question, we have figured out that its coming from the factory security system. The sucurity light stays on going down the road now and keeps doing the same thing like its controlling the ignition. Is the ANY way to disable the system and shut it down all together? Will I have to take it to the dealer to do so? When we bought the car we were not given any remotes with the car...just keys... Please help and thanks again.

Answer
Unfortunately, you need a remte to disarm the Security system. You can go to any dealer and buy a remote. They will then set it to the comp. settings of your vehicle. Then you can turn it off, etc.
The remotes vary freom $48.00 to about $100.00 depending on the setup.
