Buick/Olds: 94 Buick Roadmaster-new starter wont stop running, even while car is off., 94 buick roadmaster, buick roadmaster

Question
I purchased a new starter for my 94 Roadmaster.  Got it in ok and the car started fine 4 or 5 times and a few trips around town today.
A few hours later, went to go somwhere and it started, but I heard a noise like someone using a power tool.  I turned off the car and the noise was still there and the starter was still running.  I unhooked the battery cable and it stopped, but was very hot.  Why would the starter keep running and make that loud noise?

Answer
Betty,

One of two things has happened.
1. The starter you bought was defective and you need to replace it or
2. You somehow hooked an accessory wire to the starter which is the always on wire instead of the wire that is controlled by the ignition switch.  I would put my money on the defective starter.

Thanks,
