Buick/Olds: roadmaster air shocks, licensed mechanic, sensor module

Question
Hi Taylor, the problem is the shocks are staying pumped up.When i turn the key after 30 sec. the compressor runs for 10 sec and shuts off--i think this is nornmal? Also one night i woke up and the compressor kept cycling .I pulled the sensor and compressor fuses and the compressor kept cycling? After driving for 15 min. the compressor had stopped cycling, put the fuses back in and the compressor only comes on after start up for 10 sec. However the shocks are still pumped up fully(I hooked my trailer on and the rear end only dropped 1 inch and normally it would drop3-4 inches and the compressor would pump up-now no movement as rear end on wagon is too high.Do you think this could be a sensor problem? any help appreicated. tks  Wagon is 1994 Lti eng.

Answer
Hey Jack, sounds like a problem with the sensor relay. I believe the sensor itself is likely fine, but the relay switch to turn the compressor on and off has likely gone bad. This is known to happen after 8 or 9 years, so your experiencing a pretty average problem. You will have 2 choices on what to do. If your shocks are in need replacment anyway, you may simply want to replace them with normal Munroe Struts for the rear, these will work fine and you can unplug the whole system and not use it anymore...however, if you like having the automatic system (which I see if you do tow a lot), then you may want to invest in a new relay/ sensor module. They run fairly inexpensive and the work is semi-simple...you'll likely need a licensed mechanic to do it.
