Buick/Olds: windshield wipers, windshield wipers, forst

we have an olds acheiva. The wipers work properly until what appears the car warms up. Anyway the wipers quit working. As soon as you shut the car off, and restart the car they will work for a short time again. What is your suggestion? this is a 1998 model

This sounds to me like a bad ground within the car. If the wipers work fine at forst, then there is no reason to think the motor or switch is bad.

When the wipers stop, do they simply stop and freeze right in the middle of the window? Or do they shut themselves off?
