Cadillac: cars, best gas mileage, cadillac deville coupe

Question
Hi, I just got my liscense and I'm an 18 year old guy. I want to get a classic or vintage car. My only concern is gas mileage. Im interested in cars such as the 1980's camaros, 1980's Monte Carlos, late 80s Trans Ams, 69 chevelles, 1981 cadillac deville coupe, grand nationals, gnx's, corvettes. So basically thats the look of the cars I like. Can you recommend any cars that would be a good buy for someone my age (classic). Which cars that look like the ones i mentioned would be a good buy and which can I get the best gas mileage with? I can do some restore work at school. (have a great auto shop at school, working on 69 chevelle and an old monte carlo right now stripped down to almost nothing) Also, how expensive will insurance be? Are these cars reliable and simple to work on? Is it hard to go about getting parts?                              Thanks a lot, feel free to add anything you think I should know.

Answer
Hi Mon

I am glad to see you have in interest in classic and vintage cars! Its a great hobby you will keep all your life! You have chosen alot of great cars.

I the early 80s there was a fuel supply issue and all the manufacturers were detuning engines and squeezing allot of good gas mileage out of the cars..but they id not have alot of th HP as today or in the 60s early 70s. All the cars you mention will become more valuable over times as well.

If you are shopping on gas mileage all will be similar..not very good like todays economy cars...so you need to remove this from you search and try to find the best car for the money and a car you like!

Parts are easy, insurance will be reasonable if its not a daily driver.
I personally like the Buick GM cars like the Buick GN, GNX and the T-Type these are 6 cyl turbos with power and good economy and thay are sleeper sports cars.
Next go with the T/A and the Camaros(insurance will be higher)...stay with the Z28 for the best back for the buck...and the T/A..most room for becoming more valuable too
Have fun...all the parts are available and they prices are good..find a clean used low mileage car if you can! Good luck
