i have 87 deville with a bad 4.1 engine and can't find a used one i j yard what other gm engine would i use to replace it we really like the car?

The 4.1 engine never was any good when they built it in 1982.

You can buy a rebuilt 4.1 engine that has all the newer updated parts installed and it much more reliable than the original. NO you cannot put a different size engine in the vehicle due to the electronics differences.

Even a good engine repair facilkity can get you the new revised engine.
