Cadillac: Cadillac running hot, blown head gasket, head gasket problems

Question
Tom, is a faulty intake gasket a big thing too?  I really do think that they will give me my money back.  But, your advise is to back out if it is head gasket? THANKS so much!!!  I feel better after talking to you!

Tom, thank so much for the quick reply.  The Ford place didn't have the diagnostic machine (or so they said) to hook it up to.  They supposedly checked for blown head gasket in the beginning.  I have heard mention that it was "loosing water".   I know this is like calling the Dr. and asking him for a diagnosis.  THANKS !!!

You do not need special equipment to diagnose an overheat problem. This was just their way of getting it out of their shop.

PLEASE let me know what they find.

Without having access to the vehicle I am going with blown head gasket or faulty intake gasket.

HINT: IF it IS a blown head gasket, I would be very concerned about future repairs on this vehicle. If you can backout of the deal, I would do so. Cadillac does not have a very good reputation for engines.

Answer
I would be more inclined that it is a blown head gasket more than an intake gasket dispite what they told you. As Cadillac engines are well known for head gasket problems and you could be looking at $2,000.00 or MORE to fix it and HOPEFULLY there is nothing else wrong once they get the engine apart.

Personall and professionally, I would be VERY NERVOUS about this vehicle. I worked on Cadillac's for over 20 years and would never consider purchasing one due to the numerous faults and expensive repairs that these vehicles constantly incur.
