Cadillac: fuel pump, cadillac dealer, gargae

Question
Okay I really appreciate your help with this matter, you answered my main question and that was if Keroseneine had been put in, would the car run.  I do have it in writting on the bill that Keroseneine was the reason. Now
could you please tell me if there is somewhere, besides Calliac that I can send the pmp and have them tell me what made it stop?  You are being very nice and I understand no one wins in a law suite, but sometime you just have to stand your ground.  Thanks J-------------------------

Question -
I have a 2002 Cad and it stopped running, the gargae says I put kerosenein the car but that is
not true.  Would that make the fuel pump not work? And where can I take it to have someone else tell me what made it stop?  I should have been covered under the warranty and they charged me $975.00 to repair the car.
Answer -
IF, And I am NOT saying you DID, Put kerosene in the fuel tank, This should have NOT caused any pump damage.

As long as the contend that you put kerosene in the fuel tank, This would NOT be covered under any type of warranty.

Your only solution is to have another Cadillac dealer look at the vehicle and do NOT mention the kerosene episode and see what they come up with.

Even IF you accidently did put kerosene in the tank just have it pumped out and refilled with gas and 2 bottles of DRY GAS and have the pump tested.

You can listen for the pump to run by doing the following:

1. Using ahelper.

2. Remove the gas cap.

3. listen at the gas cap opening as your helper turns the ignition switch to the ON posiyion ONLY. Do NOT try and start the engine.

4. You should hear the pump run for only 2 seconds in the gas tank.

When diesel cadillacs first came out, Many people were accidently putting gasoline in the fuel tanks but they did not get very far down the road before it quit.

We just drained the tank, FREE GAS, flushed out the lines and installed a new fuel filter and filled it with diesel and they were on their way and NO it was NOT covered under any warranty.

let me know.

I have been involved as a professional automotive technician in numerous cases such as yours for the sole purpose of expertsie of professional opinion and I can tell you that in EVERY case the suing party FAILED to win. All he/she got was a LARGE bill from his/her attorney for representation and court fees.

Unless you have it in WRITING from the technician at the dealership stating in FACT that it states on the repair order that kerosene was installed in your fuel tank, It is his word against yours.

This is in NO WAY any type of legal information of anykind what-so-ever, It is just that I have seen this and testified i numerous cases and your NOT going to gain anything but a debit in your check book.

Chalk it up to a bad experience and move on with your life.

Answer
Fuel pumps fail for many reasons. They are like a light bulb in the bathroom. You get up at 11:00 pm and turn on the bathroom light to take care of business and let's say at 3:00am you get up again and turn ON the bathroom light and it is burnt out.

Fuel pumps are in this same category. Start the car in the morning, Drive to the store, Come back in an hour and NO START, The fuel pump died.

No one is going to give you there opinion as to WHAT caused the pump to fail. There are just to many IF's.

Even I could not swear as to WHAT caused the pump to fail.

All I could say is they fail for unknown reasons unless you can physically prove with scientific evidence EXACTLY WHAT caused the pump to fail and I seriously doubt that anyone will guarantee you a concrete fault.

If you want to persue your lawsuit and have the money to spend, This is your choice. I am just telling you what happens in 99% of the cases I was involved in when called to give expert opinion.

Again, This is NOT meant to be legal advise of anykind what-so-ever, just friendly BEEN THERE-DONE THAT advise.
