Chevrolet: replacing timing chain, strange noises, timing chain

Question
So then if we installed both gears at 12 0'clock instead of the cam at 6 o'clock and the crank at 12 o'clock, would it be possible that we are 180 degrees off?  The reason I ask is because we tried to start the car, had to have it completly floored to start.  And it sounds like it is missing.  Strong smell of fuel.  I'm not sure if any valves bent when the chain snapped.  I was only driving at about 30mph.  No strange noises.

Answer
Like I said before, it doesn't matter which way you set it up because you dont have a distributor to deal with. The crank and cam sensorsare preset so you cant be 180 out.
Now here is the problem, you didn't tell me that the chained had broken in your 1st question. If you would have told me that I could have told you that you probably bent some valves.
