Chevrolet: windshield wiper out of sync, crank arm, blade switch

Question
My 97 Cavalier's wipers are out of sync. When the wiper blade switch is in the off position, the wiper blades stop in the up position. The blades can be pushed about 3/4 of the way down but then the motor engages and the wipers go back to the up position.  When the car is started the wiper blades move from the pushed down position to the up position after what seems like a cycle - up/down/then back to the up position.  Also, the blades remain in the down position when the  on/off switch is turned to intermittent. Can this be fixed or is a new motor assembly required? Any help would be greatly appreciated -

Answer
On your type of wiper motor, the crank arm has to engauge a tab on the wiper motor bracket. When the wipers are turned off, the motor reverses directions and the crankarm flips around to park the wipers.
Your problem is probably a bent tab on the motor bracket or a loose crank arm
