Ford: 82 Ford Mustang Gt..., kelley blue book, ford mustang

Question
Hi John,
Just a question on what you would do if you were me. I am thinking of putting my 82 Mustang on ebay for sale. It is a solid car with a few mods, like 750cfm carb and intake from Edelbrock to match. Also a Flowmaster american thunder exhaust that i am sooo happy I bought cause it made it sound real nice! It needs sanding and paint, but body is solid and a few fixings with this age car like dash lights(havent worked since i got it 4 yrs ago), Headliner, a few holes in the dash and it has no radio. I never really listened to the radio anyway, I just loved driving it and with Flowmaster, you dont need a radio! The engine is rebuilt at 89K and runs very strong as it is now 101K and still very dependable and strong running. I am really struggling with selling it, but I need the $$ to get other things going. Since kids and house have me tied up and I cant drive it as much as i'd like too. It is one of those cars that might look a little rough, but has a very good underneath, meaning body and engine. I never owned a car more solid than this one as it came out of Kentucky and I am in NY. I checked kelley blue book and nada and they gave me some bull answer like 600$$ for that age, but I know better and they have no idea about value on a car that might be classic or antique. Any ideas on what i might be looking to get for this car? I already have a figure in my mind I'd be at peace with letting it go for. It's just an up and down battle with myself, should I sell it or not, wife thinks so, but It's mine and I'm not going to give it away! I have a lot of work into it over the past 4 yrs. I still have all the original parts and extra trx rims too. All this will go with it for the buyer, I'm just not sure what to set the start at or reserve at. Any help you could give me would be greatly appreciated. Thanks a bunch.

Answer
Mike,
You say in your email you have a figure in your mind as to how much you would take for the car. That is how much I recommend you set as the reserve when you put the car on Ebay. You are the one that must decide what you will take. I usually tell people that how much something is worth is how much money someone will pay. We all develope a relationship with our cars good or bad. Remember, no one loves your car like you do. Some times you have to wait until the right person comes along that sees the car the way you do. After you see what the car brings on Ebay you can decide if you will take the best offer or you can re run the car until it sells. You may decide that the car has a greater value to you as a hobby than whatever you would do with the money if you sold it.
I know I didn't answer your question, but you are the only one that can decide how much this car is worth to you.
Good Luck,
John
