Chrysler Repair: oil leak: 2.4L DOHC after head gasket replacement, head gasket replacement, manifold gaskets

Question
I have a 2002 PT Cruiser 2.4L that I just recently put a head gasket on. I also had the head checked and resurfaced. When I put it back together with new intake manifold gaskets. I have a miss and I see oil leaking from the top of the engine below the valve cover about at the 4th cylinder. Where is this oil leaking from and what could be the problem? It has a plastic manifold

Answer
Hi Hosie,
I looked over the manual and note that the oil supply to the cam shafts, etc. is a vertical shaft coming up from the block at the 5th bulkhead, i.e. that exact far end of the engine. Were the cam shafts removed as part of the job? I am not familiar with that engine personally to be able to suggest exactly where the leak is, but the fact that the oil is routed to the top of the head at that point is consistent with there being a leak there; but why is unclear to me.
You might want to go to a dealer parts counter and have a look at an exploded view of the cylinder head.
Could it just be a valve cover seal leak? The manual says to use a new seal and also to use silicone rubber sealant at the cam shaft cap corners and at the top edge of the 1/2 round seal. Tighten the fasteners in 3 steps (40, 80, 105 inch-pounds in a pattern that I can describe if you don't have it).
