Ford: 1997 Ford Ranger Fuel Gauge, chris pollett, ford ranger truck

Question
Dear Robert,

We have a 1997 Ford Ranger truck where the fuel gauge no longer works (everything else in the dash works fine).

We have replaced the fuse with no luck. The sensor going to the fuel tank is fine (had it checked out by a local repair facility). The only other thing they suggested is a potential problem with a circuit board in the dash -- they told us it would be $1500 to replace!

My question to you:
1. Could the problem be anything else?
2. If it is the circuit board, does $1500 sound right to you?

I'm willing to try anything, as we never know how much gas is in the tank. The needle just sits on empty.

Thank you kindly.

Answer
The fuel guage may be defected on this one. The fuel sending module is lcoated in the fuel tank. The entire fuel pump assymbly should be replaced. $1500 is a total
joke, way toooo much. The problem is in the fuel tank.
