GM-GMC: brake booster - power steering assist, high pressure hose, power steering pump

Question
My steering and brakes on my 3500 series chevy box van 1998, is vibrating when turning and vibratng when pushing on brake.  I went to GM, bought and replaced this booster in the truck and now it was still vibrating and when I stepped on the brake hard it popped, it made a bang noise and I lost all steering and brake power.  What did I do wrong and do you think this part will still be under warranty.  Please email as soon as possible this truck needs to go out Sat Afternoon.  Thanks Joe

Answer
Joe,

Your van should have Hydroboost, which is power steering and brakes that are powered by the power steering pump.

The vibrating brake problem is not caused by the booster.  It is probably brake rotors that are warped and need to be machined or replaced.

The loud pop may have been a high pressure hose or the belt driving the power steering pump.  Either way, you will not have power steering or brakes until you repair whatever failed.
